Happy National Service Dog Month!
Hurray! September is a celebration of the noble service dog.
Service dogs are more than seeing-eye dogs. Originally created in 2008 as National Guide Dog Month, National Service Dog Month celebrates our companions, protectors, soldiers, rescuers and more – everything a dog could ever aspire to be!
Dick Van Patten created National Service Dog Month after visiting the Guide Dogs of the Desert organization in Palm Springs and launching a fundraising event for guide and service dog schools all over the United States.
Service dog organizations not only help those the dogs serve in creating better lives for themselves, but they also help the dogs themselves! DogTime reports that in 2013, more than 380 dogs were placed into service programs, given a second chance from life at dog shelters.
There are several ways you can help us celebrate National Dog Service Month and our four-legged, furry heroes! Check out some of the links below and help a canine and their companion today! If you’re interested in hiring a Philadelphia or South Jersey Pet Sitter; contact us. 1-866-38-PET-SIT
