Bird Health Awareness Week is designed to bring awareness to diseases and other health issues that affect bird populations both domestic and wild.
With households all over the States raising more and more chickens of their own, it’s more important than ever to take care of your poultry. Fortunately, bio security, or protecting your birds from harmful environmental factors, is simple!
- Keep your distance from the birds. Even if you’re clean and healthy, avoid coming into contact with your birds as you may have something on you that could make them sick.
- Along the same lines, always keep your equipment, shoes; any transport vehicles or cages clean to prevent germ buildup!
- Be sure to research signs of sickness in birds and pay close attention to the way your flock behaves.
- If you do see signs a bird isn’t feeling well, report it immediately to prevent it form spreading!
