The 3 Top Best Guide Celebrating World Animal Day

Sitters4Critters is all about celebrating our furry, feathered and scaled friends, and there are fewer better days than World Animal Day!

Ecologists in Florence, Italy back in 1931 created the day to celebrate all creatures, big and small. Another fun fact: October 4 is also the Catholic feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

There are a number of ways you can celebrate with pet lovers all over the world.

  • Blessings at the National Cathedral – If you’re taking a trek down to DC, be sure to bring your pet to the National Cathedral for a special blessing on World Animal Day! Check your local churches, too, to see if they are hosting similar events.
  • The NYC Dog Film Festival – Take a road trip with your pooch to visit this film festival to celebrate life with canine companions.
  • Donate to the American Kennel Club – You can donate money in your pet’s name to the American Kennel Club’s Canine Health Foundation or Humane Fund to help canines and their companions in need.
