Horse memories rival that of elephants, according to recent studies. They remember people who were kind to them and situations that made them nervous. Be careful, though – due to their smarts, they can get bored and figure out how to get into trouble!
• Horses cannot breathe through their mouths and also cannot get frostbite on their legs.
• The oldest horse in the world was a British barge horse named Old Billy. He was born in 1760 and died in 1822, living a total of 62 years. An average horse’s lifespan is 25 to 30 years but it’s possible for them to live into their 40s.
• Horse ears move 180 degrees thanks to 16 muscles in each ear!
• If a horse has a small indent in the skin on their neck or shoulder, it’s called a prophet’s mark. It’s considered to be good luck.
• There are horses carved in chalk in the hills of England that are hundreds of years old. Legend has it that when King Arthur returns to the throne, one of the carved horses will dance.
